The first trailer for Wrath of the Titans has gone online. I was disappointed by Clash of the Titans, but the trailer has somewhat restored my interest in the sequel. Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles) has taken the reigns from Louis Leterrier and obviously the action scenes are bigger because that’s what sequels do. But I was taken with the imaginative design for the sets and the creatures. Presumably the 3D will be much better this time around since it’s not a post-converstion. But the larger question remains: Is the script any better? Here’s hoping. [Correction: It is a post-conversion. I was under the impression the filmmakers didn't want to do something so blatantly stupid.]

Here’s the official synopsis for Wrath of the Titans:
A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus (Worthington) –the demigod son of Zeus (Neeson)–is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius. Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity’s lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades (Fiennes) and Poseidon (Danny Huston). The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld. Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus’ godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramirez), switch loyalties and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans’ strength grows stronger as Zeus’ remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth. Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon’s demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.

A trailer for the trailer for Ridley Scott’s sci-fi pic Prometheus is now online. It’s a 30 second “trailer preview” for the actual trailer that will be released online this Thursday. It’s pretty similar to the footage we saw at Comic-Con, as it has some behind-the-scenes footage (as well as a tiny bit of actual footage) interspersed with Scott talking about the film on set (though the grainy stylistic flourish is a tad confusing). It ups the horror aspect of the flick, something I was extremely happy with when we saw the Comic-Con footage. As it has connections to Scott’s Alien, it really does look like he’s drawing from the horror tone of that pic instead of simply making a sci-fi actioner. While Scott recently stated that the xenomorph will “absolutely not” appear in Prometheus, I’m excited to see what sort of being will pop up in its place.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer preview, and come back to the site on Thursday to view the full-length trailer. The film stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, and Guy Pearce. Prometheus opens June 8th, 2012.

The full green band trailer for Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie has gone online. The movie is the first feature length film from the comedy duo Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim. If you’re not a fan of the duo’s peculiar brand of comedy, odds are this trailer won’t win you over. The movie features cameos from a number of celebs including Zach Galifianakis, Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Will Forte, and Jeff Goldblum.

A new teaser trailer for the Spanish-language comedy Casa de mi Padre has gone online. The pic tells the story of Armando (Will Ferrell) and the misadventures je encounters while simultaneously attempting to save his father’s farm/fend off feared Mexican drug lord Onza (Gael Garcia Bernal). As expected, it looks absolutely ridiculous in the best way possible. It’s a very short teaser, but gets the lunacy of the film across just as well. Ferrell speaks Spanish for the duration of the movie, and I’m extremely looking forward to checking this thing out once it hits theaters.
Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Diego Luna, Efren Ramirez, Genesis Rodriguez, and Nick Offerman. Casa de mi Padre opens March 16th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Casa de mi Padre:
Armando Alvarez (Will Ferrell) has lived and worked on his father’s ranch in Mexico his entire life. As the ranch encounters financial difficulties, Armando’s younger brother Raul (Diego Luna) shows up with his new fiancée, Sonia (Genesis Rodriguez). It seems that Raul’s success as an international businessman means the ranch’s troubles are over as he pledges to settle all debts his father has incurred. But when Armando falls for Sonia, and Raul’s business dealings turn out to be less than legit, all hell breaks loose as they find themselves in a war with Mexico’s most feared drug lord, the mighty Onza (Gael Garcia Bernal).

The first trailer for Salmon Fishing in the Yemen has gone online. The story centers on a fishing expert (Ewan McGregor) and PR consultant (Emily Blunt) who are thrown together to bring salmon fishing to the Yemen at the behest of a sheik (Amr Waked) and the Prime Minister’s press secretary (Kristin Scott Thomas). I found the film surprisingly witty and funny when I saw it at the Toronto Film Festival, but those qualities are almost non-existent in this trailer beyond Thomas’ scene-stealing performance. Instead, the trailer plays up the romantic, life-affirming aspects in a heavy-handed, saccharine fashion. It’s also probably not the best idea to finish up your trailer with a character saying, “I don’t have a sense of humor, as you recall.”
Hit the jump to check out the disappointing trailer. Salmon Fishing in the Yemen opens March 2, 2012.

In high school I developed an interest in anime. I didn’t travel the country going to conventions or buy a Sailor Moon costume, but some of the series were fun and interesting (anime is like any fan-genre: the movies and TV shows may be great, but the fandom can get on your nerves). My favorite series was Rurouni Kenshin (also known as “Samurai X” in the US). It’s an incredibly simple yet enjoyable premise: a ronin with a bloody past tries to find peace living with a local kendo instructor, an orphaned boy, and a cavalier ex-soldier. There are colorful characters and creative action scenes, and I can understand why it’s been adapted in a live-action Japanese film (I’m actually surprised it took this long). The trailer has gone online and it looks like a faithful and fun flick. Between this and Takashi Miike’s Phoenix Wright, it may be time to cue my gigantic-eyed enthusiasm.

The first trailer for director Bryan Singer’s Jack the Giant Killer has gone online. Based on the classic tale, the fantasy pic tells the story of an ancient war that’s reignited when a young boy (Nicholas Hoult) unknowingly opens a gate between the world of the humans and the world of the giants. We don’t see much here, as it plays out very much like a teaser trailer, but I like the feel of it and it sure is nice to see Singer back doing big action set pieces. Ewan McGregor is the epitome of cool, and Hoult seems a fine choice to play the reluctant hero. Overall, I like the tone and the look of everything, but there’s not enough here to gauge whether or not Singer’s got himself a winner. I’m really looking forward to seeing those giants though.
Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Eleanor Thomas, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, and Bill Nighy. Jack the Giant Killer opens in 3D IMAX on June 15th, 2012.

Here’s the official synopsis for Jack the Giant Killer:
Jack the Giant Killer tells the story of an ancient war that is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack, into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom, its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend—and gets the chance to become a legend himself.

A new trailer for Neveldine/Taylor‘s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance has gone online. The trailer explains the plot—Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider (Nicolas Cage) must save a kid from becoming the Antichrist and bringing forth the apocalypse—with brooding and one-liners abounding. There are some fun moments, but the trailer makes the movie look a little too self-serious (a far cry from the previous trailer, which featured Ghost Rider pissing flames). I’m also not sure why the trailer doesn’t say “From the Makers of Crank” since for me it’s the biggest selling point. I still don’t think Ghost Rider is an interesting character, but since we’re short on superheroes in R-rated escapades, I’m willing to see what kind of damage the flame-skulled biker is going to dish out.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film also stars Violante Placido, Ciaran Hinds, Idris Elba, and Johnny Whitworth. Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance opens in 3D on February 17, 2012.

Lionsgate has released the first trailer for The Expendables 2, directed by Simon West (The Mechanic). It’s a teaser that doesn’t get into plot, or even showcase any major action. At this early stage, with over 9 months to go until the August 17 release, the film is selling itself entirely on the reputation of the cast: Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Jean Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
If you are interested in the plot, the studio also unveiled the first official synopsis for The Expendables 2 along with a new promo poster. See it all after the jump.

I have to admit, I got excited when “NORRIS” flashed across the screen, followed by a cut to Norris whipping off his glasses. And I didn’t even see the first one! Internet, what can we do with the phrase “Also Van Damme”? I don’t know what exactly, but it feels like there’s something there.
Here’s the official synopsis:
The Expendables are back and this time it’s personal… Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), Lee Christmas (Lee Statham), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren),Toll Road (Randy Couture) and Hale Caesar (Terry Crews) — with newest members Billy the Kid (Liam Hemsworth) and Maggie (Yu Nan) aboard — are reunited when Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) enlists the Expendables to take on a seemingly simple job. The task looks like an easy paycheck for Barney and his band of old-school mercenaries. But when things go wrong and one of their own is viciously killed, the Expendables are compelled to seek revenge in hostile territory where the odds are stacked against them. Hell-bent on payback, the crew cuts a swath of destruction through opposing forces, wreaking havoc and shutting down an unexpected threat in the nick of time — six pounds of weapons-grade plutonium; enough to change the balance of power in the world. But that’s nothing compared to the justice they serve against the villainous adversary who savagely murdered their brother. That is done the Expendables way….
And here’s the poster, followed by an update on the skull/guns logo. Looks like outer space to me, but I guess that’s dust? Dust that men made. Men with their guns.

We recently got a look at the first trailer for the sci-fi action thriller Lock-Out by way of an international teaser. It revealed very little in the way of plot, but Guy Pearce looked promising in the starring role. Now a new trailer has popped up, and it’s gets fairly deep into the story of the flick. Pearce plays a man who is tasked with going into a maximum security prison in space in order to rescue the US President’s daughter. Why does she need rescuing? Well it seems the space prison is in the midst of a little space prison break by the space prisoners. The visuals look really cool, and I’m really liking Pearce’s smart-ass character. The tag of the trailer refers to the film as MS One: Maximum Security so either that’s the international title, or the new overall title (I’m hoping it’s the former).
Hit the jump to watch the trailer. Produced by Luc Besson, the film also stars Maggie Grace and Peter Stormare. Lock-Out/MS One opens April 20th, 2012.
